The Real Housewives of Orange County star Gina Kirschenheiter is opening up about how she co-parents with her ex Matt Kirschenheiter amid their volatile divorce as she also dishes on her new beau and if she’s open to getting married again.
Despite Gina’s recent (and downright messy) divorce, which includes an allegation of domestic violence against her ex (which he has denied) and a battle over child support payments, the Orange County housewife is remaining hopeful that someday they can get on better terms. But for now, she reveals all of their communication regarding their children is monitored.
“We correspond through a government monitored site, Talking Parents, but I actually think that that really is the best thing for us and I actually do think it was really helpful for us,” said Gina in an interview with Us Weekly.
She continued, “I would suggest that for a lot of people going through divorce because you just, you can’t take the shots. So it kind of takes all of that out of it. It really just becomes about like, ‘OK, what are the issues at hand? What do we need to discuss?’ It’s mostly about the children. Right now that’s good enough for us and I think that we can build off of that.”
Gina adds that while her three kids with Matt, Nicholas, 7, Sienna, 5, and Luca, 4, are doing great and have been adjusting well to their new normal, she would like to have a better relationship with her ex someday for their sake.
“I don’t think that it has to be bad forever,” she shared. “I’m a hopeful person, so I’m still really hopeful that in the future it won’t be like this and we can create kind of, like, ‘the new normal’ and set up really good boundaries to respect each other and still have a healthy coparenting relationship for our kids.”
The good news for Gina is that she may be seeing some light at the end of the tunnel thanks to her new boyfriend, Travis Mullen. But after what she’s gone through with her ex, which included an allegation of an affair on his side according to Gina, would the Bravo star ever actually get married again?
“It’s interesting. I really was thinking 100 percent, no way,” Gina revealed in a separate interview with US Weekly in regards to getting married a second time. “It’s just a piece of paper, it’s just a contract — I’m not doing that again. There’s no reason, I already have my children. Being in this new relationship has kind of opened my mind a little bit to possibly, maybe [getting remarried]. So you never know. I’m staying open.”
In the interview, the mother-of-three had nothing but great things to say about her love, but she admitted that he has nothing to do with the reality TV world and “knows nothing about it.”
But Travis having no interest in RHOC isn’t stopping the couple from enjoying each other’s company.
“We got set up through a friend and I don’t think either of us were expecting to like each other, you know? We just did, and it’s really easy and comfortable,” the reality star divulged. “He’s a great person. He’s a really good guy, really sweet, really kind and it’s nothing like I’ve ever really experienced before. I’m just really enjoying being with him and he’s pretty rad, so we’ll see what happens.”
